Taipei101 building

I haven't been there yet, but I passed by it (Taipei 101 - building) on the way to a place called the Gentle Handleman. The name Gentle Handleman is pretty strange but that's a different story or blog coming up later.

Here are some fact that I garnered from internet on Taipei 101 (you can click on the English tab for English). I was attracted to Taipei 101 with the fact that there is a Mall within it.

Well, no Plastic Surgery offices found within Taipei 101.

  • Located in the Xinyi District, Taipei
  • Designed by C.Y. Lee (I have an uncle with these initials, but I'm sure it's not the same guy)
  • As of this writing it is the world's tallest completed skycraper/tower
  • Hailed as one of the Seven New Wonders of the World by Newsweek magazine, 2006, and Seven Wonders of Engineering by Discovery Channel 2005
  • Has 101 floors above ground and 5 floors underground.
  • Multi-level shopping mall is next to the tower.
  • Owned by the Taipei Financial Center Corporation
  • Managed by the international division of Urban Retail Properties Corporation based in Chicago (I have many plastic surgery friends in chicago)
  • The original name planned was Taipei World Financial Center
  • Taipei 101 was overtaken in height on July 21, 2007 by the Burj Dubai in Dubai which will have about 141 or more floors.
  • Observatory is lcated on the 89th floor, large windows with UV protection, 8 language recorded tours.
  • Google taiwan is located there on the 37th floor
  • The Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation (TSEC) is located there as well.
  • Tower was opened to the pulic on December 31, 2004.
  • There is an annual (November) Taipei 1010 Run Up - a race up 2046 steps from floors 1 to 91.
